If you’re new to LinkedIn—or you’ve been on it but never actually posted—this guide walks you through the exact steps on the LinkedIn platform. No growth hacks. No content advice. Just a clear, practical walkthrough of how to publish a post on LinkedIn from start to finish.
Step 1: Log in to LinkedIn
Open www.linkedin.com on your browser or launch the LinkedIn mobile app. Enter your email and password, then click Sign in.

Step 2: Go to the Home Feed
After logging in, you’ll be taken to the Home page. This is your main feed where posts from your network appear and where you start creating your own posts.

Step 3: Click “Start a Post”
At the top of the Home feed, click Start a post (desktop) or tap the + Post button (mobile). This opens the post creation window.

Step 4: Choose the Type of Post
Inside the post window, select what you want to publish:
- Text only
- Photo
- Video
- Document (PDF, Word, or PPT)
- Poll
- Event
Click the relevant icon to proceed.
Step 5: Write Your Post
Type your content in the text box. You can:
- Press Enter to create line breaks
- Use @ to mention people or companies
- Use # to add hashtags

Step 6: Set Post Visibility
Click the visibility option (e.g., Anyone or Connections only) to choose who can see your post.
Step 7: Add Media (Optional)
Upload images, videos, or documents if needed. Preview them to confirm they appear correctly.

Step 8: Review the Post
Re-read your text and confirm attachments. Note: once posted, media cannot be edited—only the text can.
Step 9: Click “Post”
When everything looks right, click Post. Your content is now live on LinkedIn and visible based on the visibility settings you selected.
